Quality is not only an internal issue. In the NHS libraries also come under scrutiny of varying degrees by national organisations.

Currently the quality of library services is assessed through the national NHS library/knowledge standards in Library Quality Assurance Framework (LQAF)(3.1) and the requirements of the Postgraduate Medical and Dental Deaneries (3.2).
These are the quality assessments with which NHS library staff are most familiar.

NHS library/knowledge services provided through or in conjunction with HE libraries may be involved in
Higher Education requirements (3.3) and finally there are National Health Service requirements (3.4) and the evolving Education Outcomes Framework.
